Welcome to the first edition of the Colinton Community Council newsletter. We’re launching this as a simple way to keep residents up to date with what’s happening locally — from council discussions and village improvements to community events and opportunities to get involved. We hope you find it useful, and we’d love to hear your thoughts as we develop it over the coming months.

📝 Community Survey Now Live

Our new community survey is open, and we’d love to hear from as many residents as possible. Your feedback helps guide our priorities and strengthens our discussions with the City of Edinburgh Council.

Please do share the survey with your neighbours.  Every response helps build a clearer picture of what matters locally.

🚶 Improving Pedestrian Safety at Spylaw Road / Bridge Road

We’re currently working with Edinburgh City Council (ECC) to agree amendments to the Spylaw Road / Bridge Road junction. The aim is to create a safe pedestrian crossing point for those accessing the bus stop, dental surgery, and the pathways leading to Woodhall Road and Spylaw Park.

Once ECC provides the proposed design, we’ll share it with residents and local businesses in the immediate area for feedback.

🏛️ Colinton Village Hub – Public Meeting

The Colinton Village Hub is hosting a public meeting on Wednesday 22 April at 7pm in Dreghorn Loan Hall.

This is an opportunity to hear about progress on the Spylaw Park Shed Project and learn more about future plans for the site. All are welcome.

♻️ Recycling Event – Supporting Colinton Scouts

Colinton Scouts are fundraising for an international trip to Haarlem in the Netherlands next year. To support their efforts, they’re holding a Recycling Event in the Scout Hall off Spylaw Street on Saturday 21 March, 10am–4pm.

They’re collecting:

  • CDs
  • DVDs
  • Books
  • Old mobile phones (please remove personal data before donating)

All funds raised will go directly towards the trip.

🧹 Pride in Our City – ECC Clean‑Up Initiative

Edinburgh City Council is running a Pride in Our City initiative focused on improving neighbourhood environments through manual weed removal, graffiti clean‑up, litter removal and other maintenance tasks.

Colinton and Fairmilehead are among the areas being prioritised this month.
