It’s interesting stuff, vital to local democracy and can take just a few hours a month.
Meantime…have a look at this video for a general idea of what CCs do:
More specifically, who are we?
Set up in 2015, Colinton Community Council (ColCC) is a statutory body, run by local residents, who are either elected or co-opted, which aims to represent Colinton’s views to the City Council (CEC), Scottish Government (SG) and any other relevant body.
The area we cover can be seen on this MAP. The map is in Adobe PDF format. If you don't have it
We are the first port of call when external people or organisations seek the views of Colinton people and we run open meetings and local consultations to help us determine what these are. We also act as an information hub, passing on information about legislation, consultations, planning, grants -but also about things like traffic, roadworks, proposed developments and local events.
We run a website www.colintoncc.org.uk; a Facebook page colintoncc; and an X account (formerly Twitter) @colintoncc. Please follow us! We also have a Notice Board on the Pharmacy wall in the village.
Where appropriate we advise local groups and individuals who seek our help, regardless of any views ColCC, or individual members of ColCC, may hold.
We have a special relationship with the City of Edinburgh Council (CEC), and our City Councillors attend our meetings and are (non-voting) members of our Community Council.
We operate under a Constitution and the Scheme for Community Councils.
What does ColCC do?
Lots of things! Firstly, we meet monthly in public so people can hear what we are up to and can ask questions/raise issues. These meetings are run via Zoom or In Person, at Colinton Bowling Club, 49a Redford Road on the second Tuesday of the month, February to June and September to December at 7.30pm-9pm.
Our activities include:
