Placemaking

Placemaking is a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces. Placemaking capitalizes on a local community's assets, inspiration, and potential, with the intention of creating public spaces that promote people's health, happiness, and well being.

A community of place or place-based community is a community of people who are bound together because of where they reside, work, visit or otherwise spend a continuous portion of their time.

Place-making and community of Place form part of the new revised vision for Planning in Edinburgh and apart from Planning it encompasses Environment, Roads and Transport.

Everthing in Environment, Planning,Transport and Roads contributes to Placemaking so we have created subsections below Place. We hope you find this valuable.

IMPROVING CAMPBELL PARK

Campbell Park images

As part of our annual “Environmental Walkabout” with the local Parks and Greenspace Officer on 1 June 2017, we visited Campbell Park. While the Park is graded “very good” as a community park, comments from park users and current parks quality assessments indicate that improvements are needed around access.

Entrance paths from Woodfield Avenue and Campbell Park Crescent get very muddy, with large standing puddles of water when we have wet or severe weather. This makes access tricky- and messy! This could be much improved if we had a network of safe, sustainable paths in Campbell Park, and particularly a dry route to the Play Area.

We are also keen to see the grassed areas of the Park currently being managed for biodiversity being turned into wildflower beds in time.

Parks and Greenspace are currently getting costings for the paths, and it is likely that funding constraints will mean any upgrade has to be done in stages.

If you have any comments or suggestions on the paths at Campbell Park, we’d be delighted love to hear from you at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
